A Once in a Lifetime Volunteer Experience
Hi! I'm Vivi and I was a volunteer. đź’š
Tonight, I find myself thinking about my time volunteering with Good Neighbors International Philippines. It was a meaningful three months, full of gratitude and joy. It all started with a simple thought: how can I make a real impact on the world? Good Neighbors’ advocacy drew my attention, and I agreed with their long-term CDP (Community Development Project) policy instead of just one-time support. It was the right decision, and I received far more from this journey than I could ever give in the end.
The most memorable moments for me were definitely the CDP trips. I will never forget the days we traveled to rural communities to distribute supplies and first aid kits. It was physically tiring, but incredibly rewarding. Meeting the sponsored children face-to-face and seeing their bravery and resilience touched my heart. It made me realize that our work is not just about giving physical items or money; it is about showing them that someone genuinely cares about their future so that they can stay hopeful and positive.

This volunteer experience has changed me personally. Seeing the reality of their living conditions made me realize how much I usually take for granted. I have learned true gratitude. I also learned that connecting with people on the ground teaches you empathy in a way that reading about it never could.
If anyone reading this is thinking about volunteering, I would tell them to just take the first step. You do not need to be perfect to help. In my own words, being a "Good Neighbor" means showing up for others and treating them with dignity. My final message to the community is to keep supporting these long-term programs, because consistency brings real change.
Everyone can be a good neighbor!
You can be a good neighbor.
